Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced on Sunday that it would cut power to some residential, industrial and agricultural areas due to “imbalanced fuel (gas) supply.” Power outages in Kuwait to reduce the load on the grid are called “programmed blackouts,” whereby certain areas are cut off from power between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., a time when electricity consumption peaks due to heavy use of air conditioning devices.
