Haiti – Hinche: Strengthening cooperation in environmental management

The Departmental Directorate (DDC) and the Centre’s delegation organized the Centre’s 5th Departmental Environment Sector Meeting, aimed at strengthening collaboration among key players to address environmental and climate challenges in the Centre’s sectors.
This conference, one of the priorities of Minister Moise Fils Jean Pierre, brings together heads of ministries, decentralized services, representatives of local authorities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and members of civil society. The main goal is to raise awareness among these players and work together to develop sustainable solutions to the region’s environmental problems.
Yves Augustin, Director of the Centre of the Ministry of Environment (MDE), stressed the importance of collective participation, especially for waste management in the sector and in particular for the city of Hinche. He called for a national mobilization for the efficient management of environmental resources, in line with the vision of Minister Moise Fils Jean Pierre, who has placed collaboration among stakeholders at the heart of his environmental strategy.
At the conference, SDC’s technical partner, the Carraibeen Centre for Environment and Economic Renewal (CECAREE), presented its project to build a modern landfill in Hinche. The project, in partnership with the MDE’s Sector Directorate Centre, marks an important step towards more sustainable waste management in the region.
A Technical Monitoring Committee was established, with representatives from the SDC/MDE, CECAREE, the Ministries of Social Affairs and Labour and Public Works, the National Drinking Water and Sanitation Authority (DINEPA), Hinche City Hall, Hinche civil society and local media, to monitor the implementation of the initiatives discussed.
Caritas Diocésaine de Hinche, technical and financial partner, also took the opportunity to share its achievements in the environmental field, thus highlighting the importance of an integrated and collaborative approach.
The conference was supported by the Global Climate Change Alliance+ (GCCA+) project funded by the European Union in Haiti.
