Music Review: El Zar makes promising debut in Costa Rica

El Zar is a band that continues to be active in the Argentine pop-rock music. The pandemic was a key moment for their rise, and last year they even dared to play in their own country’s Oblas Stadium, accommodating up to 5,000 people.

While the band has multiplied the interest of the big stages and festivals in Latin America, their first visit to Costa Rica shows that they also have grace and affection in our country.

At Casa Rojas in the Escalante neighborhood, the project led by Facundo Castaño (vocals) and Pablo GimĂ©nez (guitar) reviewed material from their four studio albums and other isolated singles, which were celebrated by the audience’s sonorous chorus.

Perhaps it’s the intimacy people find in the lyrics that compels them to sing along with them so intensely. “We were accomplices/Before you ran off with me/Now you don’t know me,” they say in the song. bandit. Lyrics about couples—possible, impossible, functional or chaotic—recur and repeat. In fact, at times the approach feels monothematic. That doesn’t mean it’s a problem, as that’s the point of identifying the audience.

Generally, their sets have danceable beats, which helps keep the energy high. There is a calmer folk song section in the middle of the show, which Movie and insert Magic Wheel by Fito Páez, a tribute to another great Argentine.

The local band Desierto Rojo, who was invited to participate that night, provided a song suitable for the most relaxed South Americans before the concert. The deep songs and the deep voice of the singer made a good start to the performance of the evening.
