Egyptian doctor commits suicide after contracting COVID-19 three times

A doctor in Giza Province, Egypt, committed suicide due to a psychological crisis caused by physical illness, high blood pressure, and three times of infection with the new coronavirus. According to Egyptian media investigations, the deceased was an “obstetrics and gynecology” consultant named Nashat Al-Arabi, who was about 66 years old and lived with his 93-year-old father. He had never been married or had children, and he had been in a serious depression recently, “because he was afraid of getting old and no one to take care of him.”

The security investigation showed that “a few hours before his suicide, the doctor called his sister’s husband and met with him, his father, his sister’s husband, his clinic secretary and staff, and he revealed to them that he had entered a serious state.” According to his family, father and secretary, he had been infected with the new coronavirus three times and had taken many medications in recent times, which caused him to have diseases and blood clots, causing him to fall into a serious state of depression. According to the Cairo 24 Hours website, he then left them and went into his room for a few minutes before he was surprised to find that he had jumped from the seventh floor to commit suicide.

He left a poignant and sad message before committing suicide. He said: “Severe hypertension has brought me incurable health problems. This pain is beyond my ability to bear. This pain makes me unbearable. I apologize to my family, friends and patients at night.”
