Madrid (Euronews) – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced this Saturday evening that two “senior officials” of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) have died as a result of an operation carried out together with Israeli intelligence in the West Bank city of Jenin.

The Israeli Army said in a statement on the social network X on Saturday evening that “in a joint operation of the IDF and Shin Bet, a plane struck a vehicle of the Menash Brigade in Jenin from the air, killing two senior Hamas officials.”

In the same statement, the IDF identified the dead as Ahmed Abu Alaa and Rafat Doasi, the first of whom was “involved in the production of explosives for terrorist purposes” and also in “other attacks.”

For its part, the second victim was described by the Israeli army as a “senior member of Hamas’ military infrastructure in the region.”

“Both emerged in the Shin Bet investigation of Yassin Hanan, who was arrested by the Shin Bet and the IDF for his role in planning the August 11, 2024 attack in the Jordan Valley, where the late Jonathan Deutsch was murdered,” the Israeli army added.

Hamas later confirmed that the two Palestinians killed in the IDF drone strike were “a commander of the group’s local branch” and “a senior operative.”

“Both were involved in the planning and execution of a series of attacks, including a deadly roadside bomb attack in Jenin on June 27, another bomb attack targeting Defense Ministry staff at the West Bank security barrier on June 23, and a terrorist shooting in the Jordan Valley on Sunday, according to information gathered by The Times of Israel from Hamas.

Earlier, Wafa reported that an Israeli drone exploded over the city of Jenin on Saturday, killing two people.

According to the Palestinian News Agency, the drone attacked a civilian vehicle passing through the city center, which caught fire after the attack.

The Palestinian Health Ministry later confirmed that the bodies of two people killed in the attack had arrived at a public hospital in the same city.

The Israeli armed forces immediately acknowledged that an attack against a “terrorist squad” had taken place in the Jenin area, but they did not provide further details.
