Officials announced an initiative to organize school book exchanges during the year mechanism three education cycles: primary, lower secondary and secondary. The initiative aims to provide all students with free access to school textbooks by the start of the 2024/2025 academic year.

Although this initiative has been implemented in some schools in the past, it has taken on a new dimension this year. Inspectors are determined to ensure its success by raising awareness among parents whose children are changing schools. They will be encouraged to donate or exchange their children’s textbooks. Exchange sessions should begin in late August or early September, when headteachers return from annual leave.

Schools will also participate in this initiative to repair and refurbish textbooks to extend their lifespan. In addition, the distribution of new English textbooks for Primary 5 students continues to ensure that schools are supplied on time.

Obtaining school textbooks: organizing fairs and price regulation

To support this initiative, fairs will be held in all 58 provinces of the country starting this Sunday. These fairs will allow parents to buy books at the following locations: Regulated Pricesand will last until October.

The price of school textbooks is determined according to the level of education. The price for secondary school students ranges from 110 to 360 dinars, while the price for lower secondary school students ranges from 140 to 330 dinars. The price of books for primary schools (including preparatory courses) ranges from 90 to 300 dinars.

The purpose of this price transparency is to facilitate access to textbooks for all families and avoid the inconvenience of long queues.
