According to the website of the Geophysical Department of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a magnitude 7 earthquake occurred in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s Far East.

The epicenter was 108 kilometers away from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, with a population of 163,000, and the epicenter was 6 kilometers deep. Aftershocks of magnitude 4.7 and 3.9 occurred after the earthquake. Local emergency rescue departments have ruled out any tsunami threat.
