Kaduna police arrest 35 mobile phone thieves

The Kaduna State Police has taken decisive action to crack down on the growing number of criminal activities, especially mobile phone snatching, by conducting a series of targeted raids.

The operation, carried out by the command’s anti-vice squad, resulted in the arrest of 35 suspects, including two women, who were also found with weapons, Indian hemp and other illegal drugs.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer Mansir Hassan disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

He added that the raids were conducted between 19:00 and 23:45, focusing on identified black spots in the city.

A police spokesman said that after preliminary investigation, all suspects have been charged.

He quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabiji, as assuring the public that those found guilty would be prosecuted.

The statement read: “In response to the recent rise in crime, especially mobile phone snatching, the Anti-Crime Unit of the Kaduna State Police conducted a series of targeted raids. The operations were conducted between 19:00 and 23:45 in strict compliance with the directives of the Commissioner of Police.

“The raids focused on identified crime black spots in Kaduna city and resulted in the arrest of 35 suspects, including two women.

“The suspects were found in possession of weapons, hashish and other illegal drugs. All those arrested have been charged following the completion of preliminary investigations.

“The Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabiji, assured the public that those found guilty would be booked and prosecuted by a court of competent jurisdiction. He further stressed the resolve of the police department to combat criminal activities in the state.”
