The statement was issued today (Friday) on behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, starting tomorrow (July 20, 2016). He announced that the Ethiopian flag should be flown low for three days in memory of the citizens who lost their lives in the accident.

In related news reports, six people, including two children, were killed in landslides in Kaffa and Bench Sheko regions last Wednesday night, according to the Police Commission and Communications Directorate in southwestern Ethiopia.

In southern Ethiopia, three landslides in a week, including the disaster on Wednesday night, have killed hundreds of people, a land survey expert at Hawassa University told VOA in an interview, “These disasters are related to land use and weather conditions.” They explained.
