Tegucigalpa – The Center against Corruption and Impunity in North Central America (CCINOC) jointly dismissed the charges brought by the National Congress of Honduras against the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CNA) and the Association of a Just Society (ASJ).
The regional organization defended transparency as a pillar of democratic activities in a statement.
“Given the recent accusations made by Luis Redondo, president of the National Assembly of Honduras, regarding the work of CNA and ASJ, as CCINOC we expressed the role of civil society organizations, a force that has always been essential in monitoring the exercises,” he recalled.
He also said that access to public information is a citizen’s right that must be protected by the state and is also a basic means of combating corruption.
“When transparency is under attack, citizens’ rights are at risk,” the statement quoted as rejecting coercive actions against civil society work, he stressed, because these “represent a setback on the path of the country’s democratic exercise.”
The statement concluded by reiterating that CCINOC reaffirms its commitment to defending democracy and transparency in the region. Venture Capital
