Was the pipe replaced or painted? A reward of millions? The opposition says that the exchange divorce case at the Trenčín Academic Hospital (FN) is one of the reasons why Zuzana Dolinkova (Hlas) should be terminated as Minister of Health. The former director of the hospital, Tomáš Janík, claims that the works were not carried out within the agreed scope, and only the pipes were renewed. According to the findings of Pravda, even as the director of the Trenčín Hospital, Janík had an expert opinion, whose conclusions did not correspond to the media reports of the former director of the hospital.
The pipes in the boiler room of the Trenčín hospital are a hot political topic. Minister Dolinkova was supposed to explain the situation to his successor before the Health Committee of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic (NR) at the beginning of this month. This was the fulfillment of a contract signed in 2019 between the FN Trenčín management and the Camase company. The latter was supposed to modernize the boiler room, replace part of the wiring, and then supply heat to the hospital for a monthly fee over a two-year period. The total amount of this order was close to five million euros.
After the change of government in 2020, the director of the Trenčín Hospital became Tomáš Janík, who came into conflict with the Camase company. According to him, not all work was done in the boiler room when the company issued invoices. This suspicion was confirmed by the conclusions of a technical assessment commissioned by the hospital after dangerous Legionella bacteria were found in water samples from several departments. The technical assessment prepared by the former director Janík confirmed that some pipes were not replaced at all, while others were only superficially modified.
“Some pipes were simply repaired, scraped and re-insulated,” Janik said after a meeting of the Slovak Republic’s Health Council in early August. According to him, Kamaz prevented hospital staff who wanted to verify this information from entering the boiler room. NR SR member Peter Stachura (KDH) wanted to personally check the state of the pipes in Trenčín on Thursday. Although he asked Kamaz in advance to provide the boiler room, little progress was made. The company immediately rejected the request, ta3 TV report.
Zuzana Dolinková fired Janík last year and Michal Plesník replaced him. The new director refuted the claims of her predecessor. She claimed that the previous management of the hospital had no reservations about the work carried out and that when the project files were handed over to her, she did not object to its scope or quality. Boris Lorenc, the legal representative of Kamás, made the same statement to Pravda. The new head of FN Trenčín Plesník also agreed to recognize and pay the debts arising from unpaid invoices, thus settling the dispute with the company. The total amount was 530,000 euros.
The hospital has different opinions
Trenčín Hospital Director Plesnik reiterated to Pravda that he has documents showing that the previous management did not question the replacement of the pipes. As an example, he referred to Janík’s letter from 2022, i.e. from the period when the wiring replacement should have been completed. In the letter, the former director allegedly stated that the Camase company “completed the work within the entire agreed scope and, upon completion, submitted to FN Trenčín the project documents – the boiler room, external heat distribution and the budget in accordance with the concession agreement in question.”

At the same time, Plesnik questioned the expert opinion mentioned by the former director of the Yančín hospital. It noted that its author was not an expert, since he was not included in the relevant list of the Ministry of Justice. He also stressed that the hospital did not have this document, although it should have ordered its provision. “From the documents of the Trenčín Front, it can be seen that the Trenčín Front did not order such an assessment or even pay for it,” Plesnik added. If the previous management of the hospital had problems with the services provided by Camase, why didn’t it solve this problem earlier? This question was raised by the current director of FN Trenčín.
According to Pravda’s findings, another expert report was drawn up for the hospital in September 2021, shortly after the modernization of the boiler room and the replacement of the power distribution lines were scheduled to be completed. This assessment was ordered by FN Trenčín, which was headed by Tomáš Janík at the time. Pravda’s editorial office has a portion of this document, and its contents have been confirmed to the editorial office by a source in the FN Trenčín environment.
The expert’s task was to determine the value of the modernized thermal equipment of the boiler room and the distribution system. Under the contract, the remodeled boiler room temporarily became the property of KAMAX and its sales price was to be determined by itself. Therefore, he did not check whether the pipes had been replaced, but he should have checked the updated equipment and distribution. If he found old or neglected pipes and connections, he should have included this information in the assessment and taken this into account when determining the price of the boiler room.

However, the expert did not raise anything of the sort in his assessment. The report said that the boiler room was technically fully equipped at the time. By inspecting the boiler room, he wanted to check whether the ordered works were actually carried out, whether the technical documentation was complete, and the actual condition of the power distribution system and boilers delivered for installation.
“The technical condition was checked by functional tests during normal operation. By visual inspection of the machinery and its accessories, very good technical conditions could be established,” the expert report states. The document also contains photos of the boiler room, which should confirm the expert’s conclusions. Speaking to Pravda, Tomáš Janík, former director of FN Trenčín, said that he was aware of the conclusions of this expert opinion. However, he did not comment on its content.

The bacteria may have originated elsewhere
Janik claimed that the report, which allegedly revealed the fake project, was drawn up last fall when the Regional Public Health Office (RÚVZ) came to inspect the pipes due to the presence of bacteria. Health staff found hot water and drinking water from several hospital departments in the samples. Bacterial overgrowth Two types – Legionella and Pseudomonas. RÚVZ explained that these bacteria are common in water environments, adding that it is impossible to completely eliminate them from water systems. This means that bacterial overgrowth is not necessarily related to the replacement of pipes, it can occur in any part of the water supply, even in new ones.
Trenčín hygienists say that the quality of drinking water and hot water in the hospital currently meets standards and does not endanger staff or patients. “After certain modifications, we detected sub-limit values for Legionella,” regional hygienist Ľudmila Bučková told Pravda. She also added that after the initial discovery by RÚVZ, the hospital implemented several disinfection measures and was even able to install hot water disinfection in the boiler room, which was previously inaccessible to FN Trenčín employees.
But the office added that the effectiveness of some measures has not yet been fully evaluated. “Additional measures may also be necessary at the Trenčín Sports Centre, such as adopting more effective technology for specific venues at the Trenčín Sports Centre, replacing pipes, etc.,” RÚVZ concluded.
