The Mediterranean reached an all-time high surface temperature on Thursday, with a daily average of 28.9 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous record set last month, according to Spanish researchers. For two consecutive summers, the Mediterranean has been warmer than during an unusual heat wave in 2003, when temperatures were the highest in 20 years.
