The subject of the press conference of the Social Democratic Party parliamentary deputies was the situation in Jadrolinija, the purchase of old and dangerous ships and the management of the company. Ivan MalkovichThe deputy chair of the parliamentary committee on maritime affairs, transport and infrastructure and her colleague Miša Krstičević criticized the prime minister for his lack of empathy following the deaths of the three seafarers.

– I would like to express my condolences to the families of the deceased sailors, the crew of the “Lastova” and all employees of Jadrolinija and warn about the strategic management of Jadrolinija, which is to buy old, substandard ships, which professionals and trade unions warned against. Why is Jadrolinija managed in this way, why buy old and dilapidated ships, contrary to the opinions of professionals and the Croatian Shipowners Register who recommend not to buy them? Why do the government and the authorities ignore all these warnings and continue their practice? Who benefits from this? – Ivana Markovic said, citing the examples of the ships “Oliver” and “Sv. Duje”, which floated for several hours in the English Channel this summer with passengers on board, and “Sv. Duje” which was not enough.

– Due to their purchases, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Jadrolinija Damir Zec resigned – Markovic said, blaming Prime Minister Plenkovic for his silence for four days after the terrible tragedy, which turned out to speak about the government and the casualties. Mišo Krstičević noted that the fleet of the National Shipping Company was damaged by poor operation and bleakness.

– David Sopta will be remembered as the only chairman of the board of directors of a state-owned shipping company who did not buy or build new ferries during his two terms in office, Krstičević said. He noted that there is no doubt that these were wrong business decisions that brought damage to Jadrolinija and, most importantly, affected the safety of citizens and guests.

– There is no doubt that there are commissions, corruption and criminality here. Kristicevic criticized Minister Butkovic and the Prime Minister, saying that they showed strong contempt for the death of someone and lacked any empathy.
