Traffic jams were predicted on the motorway due to road repairs being carried out on the A2 from Utrecht to Den Bosch. But no one expected things to get so bad. Kim is returning from a holiday in Vinkeveen with her partner Saskia and their two sons, aged 9 and 11. As the A2 is completely closed, her navigation system suggests it would be best to take a detour via Nieuwegein. She wants to get back to Brabant as quickly as possible, but is completely stuck. “This is also because Google Maps says there will be no traffic jams, but that’s not true. I think more drivers think the same way.”

She has been stuck for almost six hours. Despite the several-hour delay, Kim from Heesch also saw good things. “People came from Nieuwegein and brought bottles of water, currant bread and chips for the children. These people are so kind.” Kim will now try to cross the A12. “I heard that this is how it should be. I hope we don’t get stuck like this again. With any luck, we can still get home today.”

According to the Rijkswaterstaat, the road surface on the A2 motorway between the Oudenrijn Utrecht and Everdingen interchanges towards ‘s-Hertogenbosch has reached the end of its service life.
