The Little League World Series tournament is currently underway in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Our colleagues from 24ora.com Digital Morning News TREMPAN, Leo Geerman and Theodoor de Jong, report on the 1938 Turkish Mission bishita Carl E. Stotz Field.

This was the year Little League was founded, and Carl E. Stotts gathered ten children at the site to determine the distance, i.e. how long the bases could be, based on their ages. The original bases were newspapers, and the distance between them was determined by the time the children measured with a stopwatch; 60 feet was the chosen distance. So was the birth of Little League. The field is still in use to this day.

It was also the site of the first 12 Little League World Series from 1947 to 1958.

From the beginning, the stands were built in the style of wooden benches. These benches are original. And even today, 85 years later, everything remains the same.

We must not forget that in the beginning there were only three teams participating in the tournament, playing 24 games. From 1947 to 1958, the total number of teams grew to 60. And over the years, the total has risen to over a thousand teams. This was the vision that Little League was created and established, and today, we can all benefit from the game in Williamsport. This idea is why Little League exists.
