A Surinamese gentleman from The Hague got tired of life in the Netherlands and decided to return to his homeland.
The man, who has lived in the Netherlands since the 1980s, plans to sell his apartment, worth about €400,000, and build a “spacious house” in Suriname.
He sent an email to GFC News Lifestyle this week in which he explained his plans and said the “pressure on his shoulders” had become too great for Holland.
“Our apartment is now worth about €400,000 and it’s already been paid off. With this money I will build a castle in Suriname,” says the Surinamese-Dutch native.
He and his wife have already left home with their children, and now that retirement age is approaching, they are looking forward to a quiet life in Suriname.
Residents of Hofstadt recently visited a real estate agent to get an estimate of the value of their home.
Real estate experts confirmed that the house could be sold for 400,000 euros without any problems.
“With a large plot of land, which will cost no more than 70,000 euros, we can build a nice, spacious house with two garages. In total we will spend no more than 200,000 euros,” the man of the couple claimed.
He sees the move as a chance to escape his “stressful life” in the Netherlands, where the high cost of living, constant pressure from work and society, and lack of space and peace have troubled him for years.
The two hope to start a new chapter in Suriname, get closer to nature and live a more balanced life.
