As per the provisions of the 1997 Constitution, the draft will first be published in the Gazette for three months from today and then for another ten days.
The current draft reflects our national values and ethos and is consistent with The Gambia’s existence as a sovereign and independent republican State that practices a multi-party democracy premised on democratic principles and holds regular elections based on universal adult suffrage.
The draft also recognises and endorses fundamental human rights and freedoms for all Gambians and non-Gambians in accordance with our established beliefs and values.
For the first time in the history of our country’s constitutional development, the draft law introduces presidential term limits and mechanisms for judicial and accountability for atrocities.
The draft is available to the public on the website of The Gambia Printing and Publishing Corporation and the Ministry of Information.
The Gambian government will keep the public informed of progress on the draft.
