The Honorable Vice President, Dr. Mohammed Juld Jallow, yesterday officially opened the 2025 Budget Hearing at the New Brookfield Hotel in Freetown. The hearing focused on setting the tone for the discussion of policy perspectives for the 2025 Budget.
The Honorable Vice President in his keynote speech outlined the trust in the budget and considered the budget as a tool to drive the implementation of the five transformative policies.
He told ministers, senior government officials and election controllers that the focus was on consolidating the gains made during the first term of President Julius Maada Bio, especially in human capital development.
Dr. Juld Jallow highlighted some significant progress in areas such as education, healthcare, governance, infrastructure and security sector support.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Honorable Vice President reiterated the key priorities of the governmentโs five transformation initiatives, including feed salons and create jobs.
The Vice President took the opportunity to thank the Minister of Finance and his team for the tremendous work they have done over the years to stabilize the economy and provide services.
The Honorable Vice President, however, cautioned the Ministry of Finance against increasing taxes and instead called for improved tax administration. He advocated for reducing budgetary allocations to the energy sector and cautioned the Ministry of Energy to strengthen management of utilities to reduce technical and commercial losses.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Mohammed Juld Jallow expressed optimism about the economic and national prospects in the coming years.
