The Director of General Education (AVO) at the Ministry of Education and Community Development, Helima Poese, said she has no plans to withdraw the secondary school certificate which bears her signature.

The position follows criticism from former Education Minister Robert Peneux, who claimed the certificates were illegal because Poese, as AVO director, had no authority to sign them.

The situation has left parents and students confused as to how to proceed. Despite the commotion, Bossia insisted there was nothing wrong with the certificates.

Poss stressed that as a director she had the authority to sign the documents, noting that if it was expected that the current certificates would be withdrawn, the same should apply to all certificates signed by former directors since the COVID-19 period.

Poss wondered why Pennex had not raised the alarm about the problem sooner if he now believed there had been a violation.

In the meantime, Pennekes advises parents seeking advice to ask the Department of Education to make corrections.
The case could eventually go to trial.
