Jogi: LVV needs transparency in supplying urea

MP Mahinder Jogi (VHP) believes that transparency should be maintained in the provision of urea to paddy farmers in Nickerie. “The President made it clear during his meeting with farmers that no fertilizer will be given, only money will be given as compensation and now a total of 300 farmers are eligible for urea. 750 tons”, Jogi said while speaking to Starnieuws. Jogi wondered if the mistakes were corrected before people received the urea receipts.

“How was the registration done? Was the Accounting Act followed? Was an open tender conducted? How did LVV find the entrepreneurs who are now supplying urea?” Jogi noted that many questions remain unanswered. He sees no need to deviate from open tendering immediately. It is now in its third fertilization.

The MP found it noteworthy that Minister Parmanand Severdian said he did not know the price. A bag of urea costs about SRD 1,000. If people buy fertilizer in instalments, the price is about SRD 1,400 or so. It is important to know how much the state pays for fertilizer. Jogi also wanted to know if other entrepreneurs were unable to supply fertilizer as several importers also had sufficient stocks.

There are still too many questions to be answered and errors made during the registration process need to be studied. Jogi pointed out that it is not yet clear whether the funds currently used for fertilizer will be deducted from the 70 million special dinars. 750 tons of fertilizer will cost the state at least 15 million dinars.
