This time, therefore, he is presenting himself to the voters in the House of Representatives. The nationalist leader has made it very clear that he wants to become the next prime minister and will make it a priority to put the country’s finances in order. At the same time, he intends to lead the negotiations to achieve a federal model for Belgium.

At least 20%

On Sunday morning, De Wever reviewed the core elements of his election program in front of a large number of journalists in Deurne. “The issue of prosperity is the central one. We will have to curb social spending. Either we go bankrupt or we go bankrupt. That is the sad reality,” commented the N-VA boss. He believes that working people should not feel too strongly about savings measures.

Bart De Wever is aiming for at least 20%, “but it could be higher”. “I feel good, it’s been a good campaign. We have been very honest, it was a bit of a gamble. We will now see how it turns out.”

The new VA chairman declined to say what he would do if voters no longer support him. “I’m not going to make a prediction. I think the outcome will be satisfactory.”

The latest opinion polls show that the new Veterans Alliance is dominated by the far-right Flemish faction of ethnic Flemish origin.
