The U Červená lišky house on Prague’s Old Town Square has undergone a stately transformation over the years. Its owner, RSJ Investments, removed inappropriate elements from the 90s, highlighted its history and adapted the interior to a modern lifestyle.
This is the most expensive townhouse in the Czech Republic, the original owner paid 250,000 crowns per square meter, with event facilities and Radko Kašpárka restaurant. The Michelin chef, one of the main faces of the show “Masterchef”, got the lightest part of the house for his new restaurant “420”, which was created by remodeling and roofing the original inner courtyard.
“We really liked Radk’s quality and his new idea of experiential Czech cuisine, which will also attract Prague residents to the city center. We tried to create a unique space for him in the house, which was of course a big challenge for the architect. He had to deal with wild nineties elements in the form of pipes that connect the various parts of the house through the courtyard,” says Libor Winkler, a partner in the group, who describes the original look of the courtyard as something like something out of a futuristic movie about tourists from outer space.
The roof is located on the fourth floor. Part of the hall is a sculpture in the shape of swallows, which seem to fly over the heads of customers. “I found inspiration from Giovanni Santini, the father of Gothic architecture, and we transformed his forms into the current form and materials. I personally think that this vault is the most unique in the entire reconstruction,” said the author of the house renovation, Vaclav Czervenka.
In addition to the restaurant, other spaces housing medieval paintings, stuccos and a 12th-century wine cellar have also been renovated. Watch.
