According to the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, their team has been deployed in Touba to set up a special system for Magal. Overall, the system is working and the resources mobilized have exceeded the usual levels. Improvements will continue.
“But I always tell my colleagues that I always see the glass as half empty, not half full, when it comes to meeting the needs of our fellow citizens. This keeps us forever on our toes. Even if there is a problem in just one community, we pay full attention,” explains Cheikh Tidiane Dièye.
“We have identified some areas where water supply has been disrupted. We are providing solutions,” the minister continued.
1. Darou Salam and Darou Marnane’s victory:
“There has been a water disruption in these areas due to ruptured pipes caused by sanitation works along the Mbase road, resulting in water outages in some households. Currently, repair work is underway and damaged connections are being reconnected.”
2. Ndam Darou Khalimoul Khabir and part of Darou Marnane West:
The connection work for the new heliport boreholes required the temporary closure of the F19 Arafina and F33 Touba Ndiarème boreholes, which resulted in a water outage. The connection has now been completed and the boreholes have resumed operation, with a gradual return to normalcy expected within 72 hours.
3. Part of Ndindy and Mbacké Bary:
Due to SENELEC’s work, the area was affected by a voltage drop, which caused the Ndindy drilling to stop. In addition, the rapid demographic changes have exceeded the capacity of the existing infrastructure. The emergency team sent to diagnose and repair the problem found that the pump was faulty. It will be replaced tomorrow. A complete system of boreholes, water towers and networks is planned to be established in January 2025 to completely solve the water shortage problem.
4. Darul Rahman Road:
There has been a pressure drop in the area, mainly due to non-standard installations such as booster pumps that some people have installed in their homes, and uncontrolled connections. These issues will be resolved soon.
5. Burns Sam Selene Bara Curradia:
Water distribution in this high altitude region has improved since the last intervention. Magal then plans to carry out network extension work to strengthen the system.
6. Dianatou (Penth Cheikh Béthio Boulevard Ndongo LO) and part of Madiyana:
A drop in pressure was noted, partly due to non-standard installations. Network extension and connection rectification work is ongoing. For Madiyana, the commissioning of the Touba Darou Khafor borehole should strengthen water supply.
7. Kaila and Daru Minam:
The F13 Kébé drilling was stopped due to deteriorating performance and the new Heliport drilling is under construction with a special pipeline. This work is scheduled to end before Magal, which should improve the situation in these areas.
In all cases, tankers will be sent to all areas of unrest to provide relief to the people while a solution is finalised.
