This autumn, Riga plans to build nine transportation points near the railway station.

Mobile points will be set up at Alfa, Children’s Hospital, Sloka Street, Brasa, Vecdaugava, Turibas, Mangalai, Vecāķu and Gaisma stations.

Work has already begun on setting up mobility points at Bolderāja, Dauderu, Sarkandaugava, Škirotava, Zemitān and Ziemeblāzma stations using funds from the EU Recovery Fund.

As a result, a total of 15 traffic points will be created in Riga, where convenient and safe connections between public transport, pedestrian, bicycle and rail infrastructure are planned to be installed.

Typically, the installation of a mobile point could cost more than €30 million, with much of the funding planned to come from EU funds.

As the mayor of Riga said at the press conference, work on the creation of a unified ticket is also underway. He believes that the easiest option is to use the Riga Public Transport Ticket to take the train in Riga. This will allow passengers to freely transfer from Riga to the public transport train and vice versa by purchasing one ticket.

There is also a possibility that Pieriga will be included in the unified system, which will complicate the unification process, as solutions will have to be found to connect Riga’s public transport ticketing system with the train ticketing system.

During the construction of the transport point, it is planned to improve the area around the railway station and connect the railway station platforms with the transport and public transport infrastructure.

Elsis said plans are underway to announce procurement for mobile point construction projects soon.

At transportation points, it is also planned to build short-term parking lots required for passengers to get on and off the bus, the so-called “Kiss & Ride” parking lots and shared parking lots.
