New York – The ESPN network and The Athletic portal confirmed on Thursday that the Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino will become the next coach of the United States team.

Pochettino will take over from Gregg Berhalter and will be tasked with leading the Stars and Stripes to the prestigious 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The United States just lost at the Copa America this summer, failing to advance past the group stage in the host nation’s tournament.

Pochettino’s last substitute spot was at Chelsea, where he left in May after just one season at the English club.

The 52-year-old’s illustrious career also includes other teams such as the team he led Tottenham to the Champions League final in 2019 and the French league and cup titles he won with Paris Saint-Germain.

A big reason for hiring the Argentine as the new brains of the US team is that he hit it off with current United States Soccer Federation (USSF) sporting director Matt Crocker during his time at Southampton. Efei
