On Tuesday, Simonková dismissed three members of the board of directors of the Arts Support Fund. The appeal concerns Alzbeta Lukáčová, Katarína Kövesda Cvečková and Rastislav Steranka. The Ministry of Culture said: “They were previously appointed to the board by the Minister of Culture without any proposal.”
Under the law, council members who were not proposed for appointment can be dismissed by the minister without giving reasons.
The amendment to the Arts Support Fund Act came into effect in August. The decision-making power on fund subsidies was transferred to the board of directors, and the number of board members increased from 9 to 13.
At the same time, the number of council members appointed without a proposal from the minister has also increased, from four to seven. One member is appointed by the minister on the proposal of the mayor of a municipality, mayor of a city and president of an autonomous region.
The principle of appointment of the remaining five members has not changed, and the Minister appoints them on the basis of proposals from organisations operating in the cultural and creative industries sector.
