TikTok has launched a group chat feature on the platform, allowing you to share and view content with friends and family in groups of up to 32 people, and has also introduced the ability to create and share personalised ‘stickers’.
The platform values its ability to provide a space for discovering new content and entertainment, connecting users from “all corners of the world”. In this framework, he shared the intention to promote connection options with a new way to share content with other users through direct messages.
Until now, users could only communicate and chat with others on the social network using personal private messages on TikTok. However, in order to improve the experience and make connecting with friends more fluid and enjoyable, TikTok has updated private messages and added group chats.
As explained in a statement on its website, users can now create groups with friends, family, and community members to form group chats of up to 32 people. This way, they will be able to share the viewing experience with other users.
As the Bytedance-owned platform describes it, group chats will make it easier for users to share content, comment on shared videos and images, and react in real time, making each interaction “more dynamic and connected.”
However, TikTok said that group chats, like private messages, will not be open to users aged 13 to 15.
Likewise, 16- and 17-year-olds who want to create or participate in group chats must follow a series of measures to prevent communication with strangers. Specifically, they can only join a group chat if they receive an invitation from their friends (i.e., people they follow and who also follow them).
If you receive a link to join a group, you will not be able to join the group unless it contains at least one mutual friend. Also, when they create a new group conversation, they will need to review and approve each participant included in the group.
In addition to this, TikTok guarantees users the tools to silence and block messages, as well as the option to report users or entire group chats in case they contain content that violates the social network’s community standards.
The platform clarified that they will also limit the number of groups a person can create and the number of times a message can be forwarded to avoid facilitating fraudulent attacks or scams.
You can create a group chat from your direct message inbox. To do this, just touch the Chat button at the top, select the friends you want to join the group, and finally click Start Group Chat.
On the other hand, you can also create a group chat directly from the name in the “Messages” list through the “More options” button, or select the “Create chat” option group from the publication in the “Share” menu. It should be noted that only friends who are followed by the user can be invited to join the group chat.
Currently, the group chat option is not available globally, but TikTok did not specify in which regions or countries the feature has been launched, nor which regions or countries it hopes to launch soon.
In addition to this, TikTok has added the possibility of sending “stickers” in direct messages, so users will be able to have “fun and creative” chat options for more interesting communication. Thus, users will be able to create and upload their own personalized “stickers” to use in direct messages.
