Vatican City.– Pope Francis said Thursday he was deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and reiterated his call for a ceasefire and to “pursue the path of negotiations so that this tragedy can end as soon as possible.”
The Pope concluded by saying: “I continue to follow with concern the very serious humanitarian situation in Gaza and I once again call for an end to the fire on all fronts, the release of the hostages and the provision of help to the population.” The Angelus prayer was held in San Pedro Square on Thursday, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Francis, who has called for a ceasefire in Gaza several times before, added: “I encourage everyone to do everything possible to stop the spread of the conflict and to embark on the path of negotiations so that this tragedy can end as soon as possible.”
The pope also wishes to “entrust once again to the concern and suffering of the peoples who suffer as a result of social tensions and wars in many parts of the world” and to direct his thoughts once again to the “martyrs of Ukraine, the Middle East, Palestine, Israel, Sudan and Myanmar.”
“May our Heavenly Mother bring consolation and a future of tranquility and harmony to all,” the pope added.
