In a letter to the labour inspectorate on Tuesday, Yoan Richmond, secretary general of the Polynesian Federation of Public Transport Syndicates, condemned the “seizure” of certain employees who are “members of the autonomous union” in Tahiti.

The incidents allegedly took place on Monday. The employees would be “isolated in a room to force them to complete their work hours,” the letter explains, pointing the finger at Willy Chung Sao, director of human resources and Tahiti’s public transport network director.

RTCT employee Marcelle said in an interview on Wednesday: “We arrived at the office (…) There were three of us. We were told “You have to go to this room”, but we didn’t know why. (…) We went into the room. We stayed. We waited, but nothing happened. (…) We stayed in the room until a quarter after twelve. I was hungry. The door was open. We went to buy something to eat. We were told to stay until 4:30 pm and do nothing. We stayed until 4:30 pm. »

Xavier Chung Sao, the company’s director, said he was outraged by the kidnapping allegations. He explained: “We were in a slow period and there wasn’t any activity that day. There wasn’t a lot of transportation. So if we had last-minute orders, they were available.”

“There, people told me ‘so you tie them up, you beat them, you lock them up’. But it’s not at all. The room is open. (…) We can get out. So I don’t understand why people are accusing me of things that are not true today. And the accusations are not from the employees themselves, but from outsiders.”

Xavier Chung Sao believes he is “Harassment” The Secretary General of the Federation is responsible. “If he does not moderate his comments, I reserve the right to consider legal action”.

Regarding the accusation of intimidating employees, the supervisor explained that he had simply put up a poster reviewing labor laws. “Please note that strike days are unpaid.”
