Mexico City (Apro) – The Mexican men’s football team continued its poor form, losing 3-2 to Brazil in the final match of preparations for the 2024 America’s Cup, which began on June 21. The duel took place at the Kyle Stadium in front of more than 80,000 fans.
Mexico was weakened by the time of the match after a humiliating defeat against Uruguay and the absence of Luis Ángel Malagón due to injury. Brazil continued to be dangerous in the Mexican area, thanks to the introduction of 17-year-old forwards Enderrick Felipe and Vinicius Junior. But Mexico took advantage of the gaps and Alexis Vega launched a counterattack, making it 2-1. Girona defender Yan Couto pushed the ball into his own goal before Julián Quiñones could see.
Brazil continued to attack aggressively, but there was no movement on the scoreboard. In stoppage time, Mexico equalized the score at 90+2 with a goal from Guillermo Martinez, whose header was blocked by goalkeeper Alisson, and who made an unstoppable shot on the counterattack. “Memote” came on in the 89th minute, replacing Santiago Jiménez.
