LOBAMBA – Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula says too much exposure of private parts is seen on social media.

The minister was responding to a Senate report on factors contributing to rising rates of teenage pregnancy and HIV infection. The minister said that while the Ministry of Health is working to educate the people of the country and provide services such as family planning products, it also needs help from all sectors of society. He asked parents to monitor their children’s activities on social media and television.

He said that when people log on to TikTok, they will see a lot of private parts displayed, and people can even be sure that these are for sale. “When you come to TickTok, you’re surprised by things like Sugar Parks, Tibunu, you can come and say it’s sold,” he said. He urged parents to monitor their children’s online activities rather than putting the blame on the deputy prime minister.

Matsebra also urged sugar daddies not to ruin the future of young girls by hiding their pregnancies once they get pregnant at a young age. Matsebra said children end up delaying maternal care services, thus affecting their unborn children. “There has been an increase in sexually transmitted diseases, which is embarrassing,” he said. The Minister further said that it was the responsibility of everyone including the Parliament to develop the economy and create jobs. The Minister said that people were left without food in their homes.
He said some people even went to the hospital pretending to be sick and asked to be admitted.

Happy

The minister said what was even more worrying was that some people were no longer happy to be discharged from hospital because they feared they would go hungry again when they returned home.Senator Lizzie Nkosi said the country also needs to develop plans to release correct information on social media. She said this will help counter the misinformation that is being fed to young people on social media sites.
