The US State Department revealed progress on a ceasefire in Gaza and confirmed that it was being discussed with Qatar and Egypt.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that its secretary, “Blinken, discussed efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza during calls with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar.”
The statement also said that “the two sides stressed that no party should take steps that would undermine efforts to reach an agreement,” noting that “Blinken and the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar confirmed the statements of the leaders of the United States, Qatar and Egypt,” noting that “Blinken thanked the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar.” Qatar praised Qatar’s decisive role in achieving peace in the region.
Additionally, the State Department reported that “Blinken reached out to his Egyptian counterpart to discuss efforts to enhance regional stability and reduce tensions.”
He continued: “Blinken thanked the Egyptian foreign minister for his decisive efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.”
