GRASS VALLEY, Calif. (April 10, 2024)AJA Video Systems AJA ColorBox and Pomfort’s Livegrade have received the first joint logo product certification from the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) to support ACES-based workflows. AJA Support PageColorBox v2.1 delivers a host of new user-inspired features that simplify 4K/UltraHD HDR work and facilitate emerging workflows from set to post.

Highlights of the v2.1 release include new 4K/UltraHD down-conversion capabilities for ColorBox’s SDI and HDMI outputs and 4K/2K cropping capabilities for HDMI outputs, which help professionals better utilize existing, cost-effective HD monitoring equipment. The update also introduces a new ACES pipeline for the device, enabling users to load ACES metadata files (AMF) into ColorBox to get the desired conversion, improving collaboration between production stakeholders; support for ARRI Wireless Video Optimization (WVO) LogC4, which helps eliminate banding introduced by wireless Tx and Rx systems; and more.

“With ColorBox v2.1, we focused on making it easier for producers to manage 4K on-set color workflows using the displays and equipment they already own,” said Nick Rashby, President of AJA. “Whether it’s accurately reviewing 4K with HD monitors, providing simplified AMF processing to more parts of the production team, or integrating reverse ARRI WVO to make LogC4 easier to deploy, this new version helps producers take advantage of new workflows easily and cost-effectively.”

AJA ColorBox v2.1 highlights include:

  • 4K/UltraHD down-conversion to SDI and HDMI outputs Allows users to easily down-convert SDI and HDMI outputs to lower resolutions (4K to 2K, or UltraHD to HD) if 4K equipment is not available on site.
  • 4K/2K cropping for HDMI output Easily center crop 4K to UltraHD or 2K to HD and get an unscaled image on the HDMI output that is compatible with a wide range of consumer UltraHD and HD displays.
  • New ACES Pipeline support for AMF processing Allows professionals to take advantage of AMF workflows, thereby increasing color interoperability across the entire film production chain. AMF files capture the data required for ACES pipelines (such as IDT, LMT, RRT and ODT) into a single XML file that can be easily distributed to team members on set as well as in post and final grading. It marks the sixth pipeline integrated into AJA ColorBox.
  • ARRI Wireless Video Optimizer LogC4 (WVO) support Solve the workflow challenges introduced by certain wireless Tx and Rx systems when using the ARRI Alexa 35 and LogC4. By incorporating the Inverse WVO 1D LUT directly into the ColorBox, LogC4 can be more easily deployed with existing equipment, saving time and money.
  • Special Drawing Rights Colorfront Live Mode Preview Enables users to quickly see what HDR output will look like after conversion to SDR without having to reconfigure the HDR display. Colorfront Engine maps the video to the target HDR, but with values that accurately represent the SDR image, eliminating the time required to change the output format to SDR and wait for the display to reconfigure.
  • BBC HLG LUTs v1.7 Make sure ColorBox supports the latest BBC HLG conversion update.
