With the ups and downs of the start of the season and various situations to be resolved, the Guanacaste Sports Association is going through a completely different experience, even unimaginable to many: for the first time in 51 years, the Assistant Director General has left his home country to play an international match abroad.
Guanacasteca is located in Guatemala and they will face the Municipal at the Pensativo Stadium starting at 8 pm on Thursday, August 16. Although the match will be played behind closed doors, several fans of the Necoyan team did not hesitate much and decided to accompany Guanacasteca on their journey to the land of Chapin.
“The fans are always with us and we see it when we play at home because they are in the stands supporting us in most of the games. It motivates us a lot and they give us extra motivation. There was a group of fans who came to Guatemala to support us even though they couldn’t get into the stadium, we know it’s difficult for other fans but we have their support,” said Yesen Molina.
ADG coach Bolivian Mauricio Soria said the team had turned over a new leaf after losing to Saprissa in their CONCACAF Cup debut.
“Now we are hopeful about everything we can do. We will definitely try to do everything we can to win. We know that we obviously have a strong opponent in front of us who will make the game a lot difficult and I hope we can have a lot of success so that we can win the game,” said Mauricio Soria.
He added that seeing this way of playing being accepted and well executed gives a lot of hope to clubs, football players and coaching staff.
“What we need is to consolidate the result. If we can get a positive result, I think for us it will be a solid endorsement of the work, as the team can do something historic. A first showing of victory abroad would be something that all of us who defend these colors crave,” stressed the South American helmsman.
He also said that the entire delegation from Guatemala showed a strong commitment to the work they wanted to do throughout the region to be able to support future development.
“We want the team to feel stronger with this international presentation and we will be very proud if we can achieve excellent results. We are all very united and very united in what we want to do, we have great support from those who accompany us on the trip and I hope we can make them feel that we represent them well,” the strategist was quoted as saying.
Molina said that although Guanaca Casteca suffered a loss, they have hope and desire to continue making history, and this game is key.
“It was very important, we worked in the best way possible to get the three points. We want to continue making history, this is the first international trip of this kind, we are motivated and we have the support of the Guanacaste fans.
“We represent not only Guanacaste but all of Costa Rica in this international tournament and we hope to do well, win and continue on the path we want, which is to win between the two qualifiers.”
He said Guanacasteca traveled to Guatemala on Thursday not only to compete but also to compete, and he hopes to do the same in his homeland.
