Levan Khabeishvili resigns as head of the National Union of Ukraine, replaced by Tina Bokuchava
Levan Khabeishvili cited his health as the reason for his resignation. Khabeishvili said at a briefing on emergencies at the National Military Academy that he had decided to resign as chairman after being banned from working in a tense and active state for 2-3 months on the advice of doctors following physical violence against him by special forces.
According to him, he will convene a congress in the coming days and propose two reforms within the party – nominating Tina Bokuchava as the candidate for the chairmanship of the National Party and appointing himself as the chairman of the Political Committee.
“I have made a specific decision and unfortunately due to my health, the public is aware of what happened a month ago. It was obviously difficult for me but, on strict advice from my doctors, I was not allowed to be in office and therefore I could not allow myself to be incapable of functioning as party chairman and be in 24-hour mode with only four months to go until the election.
In a few days I will convene the National Movement Congress, where I will propose two changes, the first of which concerns the party’s chairman. I respectfully propose to the Congress the nomination of Tina Bokuchava as the party’s chairman, and I also propose myself as the chairman of the Political Committee, since the Political Committee is not a routine activity, so I will participate in all political decisions. “I am eager to face the National Movement and its new chairman Tina Bokuchava in this struggle and serve our people 24 hours a day in the struggle with Ivanishvili,” Habeishvili said.
