MOGADISHU (HOL) – Security forces have clashed with auto-rickshaw drivers in Mogadishu over the past two days in protest against the recent increase in license plate taxes.

The demonstration was held on Maka Al-Mukarama Street, with protesters gathering in the KM4 area, the main route leading to Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ).

No casualties were reported, although security forces opened fire and drove vehicles into crowds. Protesters set up roadblocks and severely disrupted commerce and transportation.

The Banadir regional government has yet to comment on the protests, while politicians have called on the federal government to address the grievances raised by demonstrators.
