WHO declares monkeypox a public health emergency for second time in two years

Today, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years as the outbreak spread from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to neighboring countries.

Monkeypox can be spread through close contact. The disease can be fatal in rare cases, but its symptoms are usually mild. The disease causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled blisters on the body.
