AK gang rounded up by police; one suspect previously died during arrest

Surinamese police have successfully rounded up the notorious AK gang, a criminal group responsible for a string of armed robberies in Suriname.

The operation was carried out by members of the Serious Crimes Directorate (KD) in collaboration with the Regional Assistance Team Paramaribo (RBTP) and the Directorate of National Security (DNV).

After thorough investigation and detailed information, the gang members including RK (37), MB (49), RP (38), GJ (22), RS (27), MR (37) and AS (27) were arrested.

During the arrest, police found and seized multiple guns. The gang used heavy weapons in robberies, including a fatal shooting near Awoba Kaweg that left a Chinese man dead.

The AK gang was also linked to a robbery at a cafe in the International Shopping Center of Suriname (IMS). Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine how many robberies the gang has carried out and the role of each suspect.
