New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag on the ramparts of the Red Fort on Monday (August 15) and addressed the nation on the occasion of India’s 76th Independence Day. This was Modi’s ninth address to the nation and he called on the collective spirit of 1.3 billion ‘Team India’ to take the country forward and ensure that India becomes a developed country in the next 25 years. 1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the freedom fighters who fought against the British rule. “Our nation is indebted to Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Ram Prasad Bismil, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Subhash Chandra Bose and all the other freedom fighters who shook the foundations of the British Empire. We pay tribute not only to those who fought for freedom but also to the architects of free India like Jawaharlal Nehru, Ram Manohar Lohia and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel among others.” The Prime Minister also said that India is the home of great thinkers like Vivekanand, Aurobindo and Tagore. “Our heroes like Rajendra Prasad, Jawaharlal Nehru, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Lal Bahadur Shastri fought for our independence and shaped our nation,” he said. PM Modi also recalled the contributions of women freedom fighters of India. The Prime Minister said every Indian will feel proud when the strength of Indian women is remembered – be it Rani Lakshmibai, Jhakaribai, Chennamma or Begum Hazrat Mahal.
2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for unity among the people while noting that sometimes the talent of the country is limited by language barriers and urged the people to be proud of every language. “Sometimes our talent is limited by language barriers. This is an example of imperialism. We need to be proud of every language of our country. Only when we are connected to our roots can we fly higher; when we fly higher, we will provide solutions for the entire world,” the Prime Minister said in his address to the nation today.
3. The Prime Minister said natural farming will bring new strength to India. “The creation of green jobs will lead to multiple employment opportunities,” he said. “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan, Jai Vigyaan, Jai Anusandhan – as we celebrate 75 years, we need to follow this mantra given to us by Lal Bahadur Shastri and later adapted by Atal Bihari Vajpayee,” the Prime Minister said.
4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes aim at evils of nepotism and corruption and seeks people’s cooperation to fight them. The Prime Minister said the country needs to change the mentality of ‘fraternity’ and nepotism and give a chance to deserving citizens. Addressing the nation on the ramparts of Red Fort on the occasion of India’s 76th Independence Day, the Prime Minister said there is no place for corruption in our society and the people of the country need to unite to punish those who promote the evil of corruption. “Today, the country is angry about corruption but not about the corrupt. Unless people have the mentality to punish the corrupt, the country cannot develop at an optimal pace,” said Prime Minister Modi. “Another evil we need to unite against is nepotism. We need to give opportunities to those who are talented and willing to work for the progress of the country. Talent is the foundation of the new India. To purify every institution of India, let us change the mentality of ‘fraternity’ and ‘village’ and give a chance to citizens who deserve it,” said Prime Minister Modi on the occasion of India’s 76th Independence Day. Despite the numerous challenges and constraints faced by India, the Prime Minister stressed that India has the capability to overcome all challenges and constraints to achieve a New India.
5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the youth to devote their lives to the development of the country in the next 25 years and highlighted five resolutions to achieve this goal. “When the dream is big, the hard work is equally big. We need to be inspired by the courage and determination of the freedom fighters who dreamed of a free India. I urge the youth to devote their lives to the development of the country in the next 25 years. We will work for the development of all humanity. This is the power of India,” the Prime Minister said.
6. PM Modi also asked citizens to focus on the May Day celebrations. He said, “In the coming years, we must focus on the May Day celebrations – first, to move forward with greater resolve and determination to develop India; second, to eliminate all traces of slavery; third, to be proud of our traditions; fourth, the strength of unity; and fifth, the responsibility of citizens, including the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister.
7. PM Modi also mentioned Digital India in his speech at the Red Fort. He said: “Today, we see the Digital India program, startups are growing in India, and many talents are coming from Tier II and Tier III cities. We must believe in our capabilities.” PM Modi said that India’s “technological progress” has arrived, and the government is focusing on technologies such as 5G, semiconductor manufacturing, and fiber optic cables. PM Modi said these technologies will bring about a grassroots revolution.
