Mikael Badalyan, former director of the Museum of the Erebuni Historical and Archaeological Reserve and candidate of historical sciences, wrote on his Facebook page.
“As you know, it seems that the person who serves as the director of the History Museum of Armenia criticized the burning of the clay statue of Tesheba, the god of the elements, in the Urartu Temple of Kamil Blurred, as being done without the consent and permission of the History Museum of Armenia.
Unfortunately, the event was given the qualification of “highbrow”. It is worth mentioning that the author of the creation and firing of the clay statues is Vahram Galstyan, one of the best representatives of this field in Armenia. The event was highly appreciated by leading Armenian artists and the public.
Why did this happen?
First of all, the History Museum of Armenia is not the property of anyone and is not there to satisfy their ambitions. Also, as far as I know, there is no law that requires event organizers to apply to the History Museum of Armenia, since the original of the bronze statue of Tesheba is in the aforementioned museum.
The clay statue is at least 10 times larger than the original size and has been modified in various details.
Now, why all the fuss? As you know, I am not working today because of my principles, my pro-national stance. Besides, I have a child with special needs, and my wife and I try to do everything for him. Many kind people are supporting us during this time. I have shared my problems with the Director of the History Museum of Armenia many times.
However, strange and unexpected as it was, the noise was heard. The idea of creating a clay statue with Vahram came during my tenure. I have talked about it many times. Moreover, this event was presented to the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Armenia last year and was supposed to be implemented within the framework of the European Heritage Days. The authorities had no objection to this measure. However, we decided to postpone the lighting ceremony of the statue, as Vahram felt that there were still some details to be worked out.
I believe this noise is part of a revenge campaign against me. Another question is whether this is a direct instruction or just to please certain people. This is my personal opinion.
For me, criticism of the burning of the clay statue of Tesheba is acceptable if they have the same passion, for example, on the Facebook page of the History Museum of Armenia and its director, for example, at the last rally in the History Museum of Armenia. In June 2021, the “Civil Agreement” party was held on Republic Square in the building of the History Museum of Armenia, criticizing the fact that before the elections posters covered the central part.
Isn’t that against the law? Why don’t you let them put up those posters? Is that not enough, or is it necessary?
Before talking about level and taste, we can first look at our own monitor and maybe look in the mirror.
