CIRAPUN, West Java (ANTARA) – The Mundu Pesisir village in Cirapung, West Java, will host the 2023 International Kite Festival at the Muara Mundu Marine Tourism Park from October 7 to 8.

Karen, head of Mundupesir village, said on Saturday that kite athletes from several Asian countries including Lebanon, Malaysia and Singapore participated in the event.

“Our village has very good infrastructure and facilities. This is the first time our village has hosted an international event,” he said.

He explained that the festival provided a good opportunity to promote the various tourism potentials of Mundupesicil village.

“This event will have a positive impact on the local economy,” he commented.

Meanwhile, Sari Madjid, acting chairman of the Indonesian Kite Association (Pelangi), explained that the kite festival was held in Zirapung for the first time and was the first step towards a bigger event.

Majid said that Mundupesisil village is a suitable place to fly large kites ranging from 6 meters to 30 meters.

“The wind here is steady and not towards the sea. We tried (flying a kite) yesterday,” she said.

On the first day of the festival, the event committee prepared some stones and sandbags to tie the kite strings.

“We also prepared a car at the corner to tie the line because we couldn’t hold it. We also prepared some stones and sandbags to tie the line,” she said.

She said that despite favorable wind conditions, the venue was too small to fly many kites at the same time, but she assured that this situation would not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants and the local community.

“The challenge is that the venue is so small, but we can still fly big kites,” she commented.
