JAKARTA (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is proud of the success of young weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah, who made history by becoming the first Indonesian weightlifter to win a gold medal at the Olympics.
The win earned Indonesia its second gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“Rizki Juniansia presents Indonesia with its second gold medal in the men’s 73kg weightlifting category,” the president wrote on his X-account @jokowi on Friday.
Junecia’s total score was 354 kg, including 155 kg in the snatch and 199 kg in the clean and jerk.
Jokowi said: “He broke the Olympic record in the clean and jerk and became the first Indonesian weightlifter to win a gold medal in the Olympics. Thank you, Rizki, and congratulations!”
The 21-year-old weightlifter, born on June 17, 2003 in Serang, Banten, became the 15th Indonesian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, making weightlifting the third sport to win an Olympic gold medal after badminton, where he won bronze, and speed climbing, where he won gold.

Another silver medal was won by Raema Lisa Rumbewas at the 2004 Athens Olympics, while weightlifter Eko Yuli Irawan won medals at four Olympics from the 2008 Beijing Olympics to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with her consistent contributions.
