The trotting horse was trapped on Siikalahdentie in Ruoves.
The horse was in training when it became lost and ended up falling on its back into a roadside ditch, Pirkan Horse Rescue said in a news release.
The driver of the car was not injured in the accident. He climbed out of the ditch by himself, but the horse was trapped.
When rescuers arrived, the animal was still lying on its back in the ditch. The cart was trapped inside.
Rescuers removed the vehicle from the horse and dug dirt from the edge of the ditch to help it get into a better position.
With the help of blankets and heat packs, rescuers ensured the animals stayed warm.
Once enough earth had been dug up, the horse was able to stand up with help. A veterinarian checked the animal’s condition. The horse had minor injuries.
Rescue services were notified of the mission around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A mixed force of Murolee vpk and Kuru and a professional rescue team of Teivo’s Animal Rescue reached the destination with their equipment.
