Heklubyggð is planning a major development at the ski lodge in Hveradälur. Meanwhile, Hveradalir is planning to build a bathhouse and swimming pool in Stóradal, not far from the ski lodge, but these projects were discussed in Morgunblaðin from 1 to 3 August.
Hveradala ehf. board chairman Þórir Garðarsson said the reservoir is in the design process but hopes to be able to report on it this autumn.
There are rumors that separated water from the Hellisheiðar power plant will be used for the bathing lagoon after it has produced electricity and heat (separated water was referred to as wastewater in the previous article).
Geothermal Park Swimming Pool Section
A new memorandum from Orkuveitun’s research and innovation department shows that it is feasible to use separated water from Hellisheiðarvirkjun, said Orkuveitun CEO Sævar Freyr Þráinsson.
The research project was initiated due to the interest of both parties to open a swimming pool in the area. The swimming pool will be part of the geothermal park, which is a green industrial park in Orku natturunnar in Hellisheiðarvirkjun.
“We analysed whether it is realistic to use the separated water and whether it can be returned (to the geothermal tank) after use in the swimming pool, but at Orku natturunnar the geothermal water is returned to the geothermal tank after use. It is used for electricity and heat production. The results were very promising, so we are very optimistic that we will be able to use the water in this way and build a facility for the swimming pool,” says Sævar Freyr.
