Sunvale has four large bedrooms that sleep eight people – two with four-poster king beds draped with mosquito nets, and two with king beds that can be split into singles. There are no bad rooms, but those with mountain views and access to the deck are reserved for the best dressed on a first-come, first-served basis. Each room has a safari-style canvas wardrobe, a writing desk and air conditioning; there are also sun loungers for relaxing on the terrace.

Two oversized bathrooms run the length of the house, one with a shower and the other with an oversized freestanding tub and separate shower. While there is a 65-inch TV, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, guests are encouraged to turn off the TV and relax by the outdoor fire pit or hot tub, taking in the views and the stars.

Food + Drinks

Turon Gates is remote and there are no restaurants or takeaways within driving distance, so guests must bring all their own ingredients and cook their own meals. Sunvale has a fully equipped kitchen with a chef’s oven and four-burner stove, three small refrigerators and a full range of cutlery and cookware, so you can plan ahead to cook a feast and enjoy the simple pleasure of sharing a home-cooked meal with friends. There are also barbecue facilities and an outdoor dining table.

All Turon Gates guests receive a complimentary bottle of resort-branded wine and some local honey, or purchase wine from nearby Mudgee Cellar Door during a day trip into the wine region.

Outing + About

A perfect country getaway.

A perfect country getaway.

If you can tear yourself away from the hot tub, drive 25 minutes to the resort center, where you’ll find numerous hiking trails, swimming holes in the Tulum River, canoeing, gold panning and trout fishing. You can also take a leisurely horseback ride along the river, looking for wildlife and enjoying the sounds of nature.

For those who want to explore further afield, the Mudgee wine region is just over an hour’s drive from Tullunges, or you can explore the stunning Capertee Valley, the widest gorge in the world, a kilometre wider than the Grand Canyon.

Guests are required to prepare their own meals, but the property has a fully equipped kitchen.

emphasize

Pull up a camping chair and hone your fire-making skills at the outdoor fire pit, chat and sip Mudgee wine while you try to spot the constellations in the dazzling southern sky.

Low light

The lack of a microwave in the kitchen seemed a little odd, considering guests have to bring all supplies from home. My daughter also complained about the lack of a hairdryer – city folk, right?
