Dam Press:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned ministers not to discuss security issues amid tensions with Iran and Hezbollah, Kan News reported.
The warning was issued amid estimates that Iran could launch an attack on Israel in the coming days, possibly even before next Thursday’s hostage agreement negotiation summit, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The newspaper said the latest assessment by Israeli intelligence agencies over the past 24 hours indicated that Iran had decided to directly target Israel in response to the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh.
The sources noted that this was a significant change from recent assessments that international pressure was preventing Iran from conducting a direct strike on Israel.
Sources revealed that in recent days, an internal debate has taken place between the IRGC and the new Iranian president and his advisers over the nature and timing of the response to Haniyeh’s assassination, suggesting that despite calls from the IRGC for more action and despite the president and his advisers’ belief that such a harsh response, more severe and more extensive than the April 13 attack, should be avoided.
Another source said the situation “remains uncertain” and internal debate in Iran was ongoing, meaning Iran’s decision could still change.
