For Diosdado Cabello, the First Vice President of the PSUV, the problem of social networks is a national one and he guarantees that the far right manipulates the social networks “with stories of freedom of expression”, as he expressed it during a press conference held on Monday at the headquarters of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela.
He said that company owners are using social networks as a form of domination, and in his opinion the effectiveness of social networks depends on the people, and even if they censor and “ban” publications, they cannot prevent them from reaching all parties.
He pointed out that 70 countries around the world regulate social networks.
He recalled that in the days before the post-election violence he had warned that it would happen because that was the way of far-right politics.
“They always use the same script, calling on their followers to commit violence. It’s the same script again, but this time they don’t use snipers, they use assassins.”
He recalled that the violent elements attacked houses, squares, sports facilities, and violence broke out among themselves. It was the same script, the same ending, and they would eventually fail.
He stressed that those who proposed violence “do not understand the TSJ, the CNE, the Venezuelan state and their own country,” he said. He added that the PSUV expressed support for state institutions to everyone. “We went to the TSJ and I answered the questions they asked me.”
Zero tolerance for fascism
He said any fascist-type demonstrations must be “dealt with” immediately. “In Venezuela, this will not happen. We have not eliminated the fascists. Justice will come to them. Despite them, there will be peace in Venezuela. We will eliminate hatred. Venezuelans will not be like that,” he said.
Cabello affirmed that there can be no dialogue with fascism and there must be zero tolerance for it.
Regarding the so-called call for global protest rallies, Cabello expressed the hope that they would not create violence. “I doubt the real purpose, they have been trying for days to do damage control to wash away the violence they created on July 29 and 30, which has been confirmed, they are trying to do damage control in order not to link them. It is clear that they incited, financed and created violence,” he said.
He said Venezuela was under siege, with extremist opposition groups downloading hateful content over the internet and Chavismo under censorship.
When asked about the possibility of the United Nations acting as a mediator, he said that everything was normal in the country.
Justice in Action
He noted that the Venezuelan justice system is taking action without much fuss and that it has evidence from those who committed the violence, as they even recorded themselves.
Regarding the so-called La Vega attack, the self-proclaimed human rights defender of the diverse gender community said it was a false report and they were creating a scandal.
“We called the interior minister and all the agencies to find out what was going on. The operation was carried out very early, about two hours ago, and a person was arrested. But they created a false alarm, they put a hat on someone and said it was a security organization (…), which is a very stupid and extremely ridiculous set-up. If that person was involved in a hate crime, he would definitely receive a just response, but this is not the case. Lies are one after another, you will not see the truth in the media, they know they have lied to the country.”
He said those who promoted lies, fraud and deception were linked to those who carried out cyber attacks on CNE.
“83 percent of the minutes they provided were fake,” he said, adding that when he went to TSJ, “they asked Manuel Rosales about the minutes and he said he knew nothing and had no witnesses.”
He said the arrests were preventing “something big” from happening.
