In the city of Shakhtinsk, Karaganda region, debris was removed from a 722-hectare forest belt, a favorite place for city residents to relax and exercise. The Kylchakty River in Kokshetau is being cleaned. In recent years, the water has receded and the surface has become covered with algae. In the hot summer, the unpleasant smell is suffocating. 403 million tenge has been allocated for river cleaning, but private investment has decreased.
Janet Mikishev, Director of the Regional Department of Natural Resources and Nature Use Supervision:
– Currently, one kilometer of the river flowing into Lake Copa has been completely cleaned. The remaining 4 kilometers have not been cleaned at all. The riverbanks are overgrown with reeds, and the river bottom is piled with domestic garbage. Now we are going to take it all out. The cleaning work will be completed in November. We also plan to conduct scientific studies to restore the water balance of the river.
