Malta International Airport is expecting heavy passenger traffic ahead of the Santa Maria public holiday weekend.
The airport expects more than 33,700 passengers to travel on its busiest days, which are expected to be August 15, 22 and 29.
The peak tourist period is expected to be between 12 and 18 August, with 216,922 passengers expected to depart or arrive in Malta.
Passenger traffic increased by 12% in July
Malta International Airport welcomed an unprecedented 951,861 passengers in July, a massive 12.2% increase compared to 2023’s record passenger traffic.
The result also confirms that July 2024 will be the busiest month in the history of Malta International Airport and the first month in the airport’s history to exceed 900,000 passengers.
This milestone was accompanied by strong growth in aircraft movements, which increased by 14.1%, bringing the total number of flights taking off and landing at Malta International Airport to 6,054.
The busiest day of the month was Thursday, July 25, when the airport handled 214 take-offs and landings.
Seating capacity increased by 11.5%, and the occupancy rate of all available seats reached 89.7%, reflecting strong travel demand as the summer travel peak approaches.
Italy remains the largest market for Malta International Airport, accounting for 25.5% of the market, followed by the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Poland.
