On June 7, Armenian Foreign Minister Mirzoyan met with SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, who was on an official visit to Armenia. After a separate meeting, the Armenian Foreign Minister and the SCO Secretary-General held an expanded meeting.
The two sides noted with satisfaction that this is the first visit of the SCO Secretary-General to Armenia and expressed the hope that the discussions during the visit will help expand opportunities for cooperation between Armenia and the SCO.


Minister Mirzoyan stressed that Armenia attaches great importance to the fundamental principles of SCO activities: sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, non-use or threat of force. “Peace, security and economic development: these are what Armenia wants to achieve in our region, and I must note with satisfaction that the core principles and our vision for peace are consistent with the main guidelines of the SCO,” Ararat Mirzoyan added.
The Armenian Foreign Minister and the SCO Secretary-General exchanged views on issues such as the development of the economy, transport and logistics networks. Ararat Mirzoyan stressed that the “Crossroads of Peace” initiative proposed by the Armenian government has clear goals and good opportunities and can become an important part of the agenda of economic and trade cooperation and transport connectivity within the SCO framework.
Speaking about the security environment in the South Caucasus, the Armenian Foreign Minister briefed his interlocutors on the latest developments in the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the vision of the Republic of Armenia and efforts to sign a peace treaty.
